poäng armchair

Poäng armchair is a part of Poäng series. It was designed in 1972 by a Japanese furniture designer named Noboru Nakamura.

There are also other designs of Nakamura: armchairs and chairs that consist of either bent metal or bentwood frame with various types of fabric and leather options.

Poäng is sold in IKEA stores and consists of two packages; chair cushion and chair frame.
The bentwood frame of the chair is produced in Romania and made from birch which is a type of wood. It is designed to be assembled by the customer. 2 plastic stoppers are fastened at the bottom of the chair to prevent slipping. The frame withstands weights up to 170 kilograms.

The cushion is 100% cotton and made in Turkey. Removable and machine washable cover makes it easy to clean and use. The head rest is 100% polypropylene. It provides great support for the user’s neck. The hook and loop fastener enables the stability of the cushion.

Poäng is a globally known and widely used design which can be considered as esthetic and ergonomic. The ergonomics of the design results from its soft backrest that holds the head and shoulders of the user. Also, its comfort mainly resulted from the fact that the knees are positioned vertically higher than the thigh when you sit on the chair.

Poäng harmonizes smoothly with the other furniture used in the surrounding. Besides being used in classically furnished houses, it may also be preferred in modernly furnished places.

Poäng is used for different purposes in different places of the house. For instance, there are two families whom I know personally. One lives in America and uses the chair in the living room. The other family settles in Australia and the chair is used for breastfeeding purposes.

Poäng has 10-year limited warranty which covers the armchair frame but not the cushions. Some users indicated that they have been using the product for over 10 years.

The ones who sit on the chair for long times or who want to use it as a TV chair may prefer to use the design along with footstool from the Poäng series.

Poäng is both reading and working chair for me. It is very useful with an L-shaped notebook stand.
